Do you mean a "CommEvent" overflow error? Or a program runtime exception.
If it's a program runtime error/exception would you please send us an email possibly with a screenshot of the exception - also include the exact version of the OCX you're using (.Version property).
If you could make a very small project that exhibits the problem and send that to us that would allow us to see the problem and, if necessary, get an update released in just a day or so.

Hi. I am having this problem too, where "Runtime Error '6' is reported. I am using version 8.1.8 of SComm8. Clicking (About) reveals it is the Free Demo version, but I purchased it on 15th September 2015. Perhaps there is a newer version of SComm which does not do this?

You also sent an email about this and I can confirm that you did purchase the full licence in september 2015 and a full download with full licencve key was sent to you. If you are now seeing the 'Free Demo' then it means you're not using the version you paid for.
I do want to say though that the "Runtime Error 6" has nothing to do with the fact you're using a free version. But may be that you're using an 'old' free version.
We'll rep[ly to your emails and, if necessary, come back her and post a solution for anyone else seeing the runtime error.

John. Thank you for your email. I'm happy to hear that the newer, v9 version of SComm32 does not experience that Overflow problem.
The problem was caused by an updated (bugged?) USB Com driver used by some USB/RS232 manufacturers. SComm32 v9 avoids the problem.
