Topic:   Program cannot end properly.

My software has only one form. When I close the form, the windows task manager shows my program is still running. After I replace scomm32 with mscomm, the problem is gone. Is there a way to release scomm32 properly?

In your form close event you need to make sure the port is closed.

Yes. This is done in the program. MScomm does not have this problem. We bought a SComm32 for windows 10. If SComm cannot solve this ending issue, we have to keep our program with a windows XP or Windows 7.

Can you make a small project that reproduces this problem.

Just a simple form that opens the serial port and maybe sends a few bytes. Just so that we can see the problem and maybe issue a fix.

If you can make a small project please zip and email to

I am experiencing this same problem. Is there further information on this that I can find. I have tried many different possible solutions - none appear to work. The comm ports are absolutely closed before the end statement. Looking at the task manager, the program appears in the apps section. When the program terminates, the task appears in the background tasks. If I start the program again and terminate it, a second copy appears in the background tasks. This will continue to be the case as I continue to start and end the program.

The person who had the error way back in 2016 never came back so we assumed they'd fixed it themselves.
