Topic:   Component does not appear in the Additional Controls.

Hello,
Once installed, when I enter Excel VBA and go to References, I can find the Scomm32x.ocx component in the sysWOW64 folder and the Scomm32x (v9) Serial Communications OCX screen appears. So far so good. When I go into Additional Controls it is not there to be selected. What could be wrong? Thank you.

Don't add it via "References". Add it via the "Toolbox".

Open the toolbox and if SComm isn't visible then click with the RIGHT mouse button on a blank area of the toolbox and a menu appears. Select "Additional Controls"

List of control appears. Scroll down to SComm

SComm appears in your toolbox

I did just that and the "SCommLib.Scomm" control does not appear for me. I ran the installation correctly through the "install_trial_scomm32x.exe". What could be wrong? I am using Win10 x64 and Excel 2016. Thanks.

Does Scomm32 not support Excel x64?

It isn't that SComm32 does not support Excel64.

It's Excel64 that can not support 'any' 32 bit components.

The version of Windows is not a problem. Scomm32 works fine on 64bit Windows as long as you're using 32bit office.

Do you need to use Office 64bit? The Microsoft Office installer defaults to 32bit. There is no advantage in using 64 bit office unless you need to work with VERY VERY big excel sheets.

Actually I do not need to use Excel 64 bit. But this turns out to be a problem when we need to use the spreadsheet on computers using 32bit office. But okay, I'm going to reinstall Excel and swap it for 32 bit. Thank you.
