I have today downloaded the SComm32 for VB6. It works fine on the windows XP system. But when I run the sample project provided in the download on a Windows10 system I get error 8002, invalid port number, even though the application detected the port.
Please advise on possible causes and proposed solution.

Following is a clarification to the above issue.
If the system is booted with the device connected to the serial port I do not get the error, but if the device is plugged in after the system is booted the port is detected but opening it gives the 8002 error.

We never heard of this problem before.
1. If you disconnect the USB does it immediately disappear from Device manager and then re-appear in device manager as soon as you plug the USB back in again?
2. if you disconnect the USB does scomm32 still detect the port even though it is not connected?
3. Do you have any other programs that can open the com port? For example if you have HyperTerminal can that open the com port?
4. Are you running inside a Virtual Machine? Or do you have a virtual machine running ?

Problem turned out to be the the USB/Serial adapter is not compatible with windows 10. Problem solved by installing an other adapter.

MEA. Thank you for coming back to tell us.
In your email to us you explained that your USB also didn't work in HyperTerminal. That does suggest that the problem is related to the USB device itself. Device Drivers etc rather than a fault with SComm32.
